Who are we? How can you help?

STOPTORTURENOW.ORG is an initiative of the Center for Theology and Social Analysis in Saint Louis. We are a small, community-based nonprofit organization operating on less than a shoestring. Members of our group have been involved in work with immigrants in the St. Louis area, solidarity with Latin America and Palestine, and direct care and counseling of refugees from Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and several African countries who are suffering the effects of torture and severe war trauma. We teach, write, and organize. We have been involved in protests and actions for the past year in an attempt to draw attention to torture being carried out in our name, especially at Guantánamo and places in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After watching the country spend a billion dollars on a presidential campaign that has left the voices of justice and peace hijacked and demoralized, we are now calling us all to an EMPOWERING DIRECT ACTION between now and the inauguration. More than anything we need to put our bodies on the line. So get an affinity group together and plan an ACTION.

We can also use whatever monetary donation you can manage. It will help us invest our full energies in spreading word of this campaign while continuing to work with the victims of war and torture here in Saint Louis. We can also use help to defray the expenses we are incurring in our campaign to shutdown the CIA TORTURE TAXI.
